What did we do before the advent of Instagram? It’s responsible for sparking appetites, making cookies go viral, and inspiring home cooks to reach outside their comfort zones, often with jaw-dropping results.
We love our 877,000+ followers almost as much as they love the food photos we post, and we love when you tag us in your creations or use #mywilliamssonoma to get our attention. Of all the photos we posted this year, these were your five favorites, at least according to the likes! Here’s a bit more about what makes each recipe so drool-worthy.
Combining two classic comfort foods, chicken and cheese, this recipe is a hit for obvious reasons. A mushroom-spiked ricotta mixture drizzles from beneath the crisp skin of chicken breasts, keeping them moist as they cook in the oven. Tarragon, parsley and chives add freshness to the finished dish. It’s as delicious as it is eye-catching, with an easy gravy you can spoon over potatoes, polenta or rice.
Perhaps there’s a more tempting-looking dessert out there. But we wouldn’t bet money on that. This strawberry trifle is as tasty as it looks, teeming with ripe strawberries, a mascarpone-spiked whipped cream, fresh mint, and an easy homemade angel food cake. Ideally you also own a footed glass trifle bowl, but in a pinch, we’ve been known to use a large spoon and a big, good-looking glass bowl such as this pretty vintage number.
Kids and adults alike flip for this adorable-but-elegant gingerbread layer cake. It’s so much easier than it looks, too, requiring just a stand mixer and a tiny bit of patience. The cake itself teems with good flavors: a full cup of Guinness; molasses and brown sugar; ginger, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg. (It’s hard to imagine the recipe that will make your house smell better than this one as it bakes.) The frosting is a gorgeous, ephemeral vanilla-and-maple syrup-spiked mascarpone cream.
Homemade gelato meets espresso in this divine, classic Italian treat: affogato. It’s a reminder that nearly everything is better with ice cream. A simple gelato recipe is the key to making this a standout treat, as is pouring the espresso the moment it’s ready. (If you wait, it can become bitter.) Fans of this dessert might also like homemade ice cream with bourbon poured over it, which is straightforward and yummy as it sounds.
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a hundred times: Sheet pans are the key to easier weeknight dinners. This garlicky shrimp and asparagus “fries” recipe is no exception. There are two tips for making this recipe extra-delicious: 1) Be sure your oven is very hot, for crisp exteriors; 2) Don’t skip that luscious Meyer lemon aioli. Meyer lemons are in season right now, and they’re a delight: floral, slightly sweet, and boasting a gorgeous bouquet. Dip both shrimp and asparagus in the aioli, and enjoy a satisfying, veggie-and-seafood focused meal any night of the week.
